Looking back on 2021, we see a tough year with many challenges, both for DekTec and for our customers. Here at DekTec, for example, we struggle to get sufficient components in a severely overheated chip market. So far, with the help of our partners, we managed to produce 99% of the products we needed. We'd like to thank all our partners for their great support in achieving this.

Despite difficult times, we are glad to see that our industry is holding up very well. Demand is high, even so high that at DekTec we are having one of our best years ever! We are confident that after the world gets the aftermath of the pandemic under control, our industry will flourish and continue to grow.

Integrating ATSC 3.0 transmission systems is a specialty of US-based Heartland Video Systems (HVS), a long-time partner of DekTec. As with all new technologies, getting ATSC 3.0 right comes with some tough challenges. Mike Schmidt of HVS uses DekTec modulators and receivers to generate and capture ATSC 3.0 test.

HVS has found that the PCAP file format is very useful for capturing the full ATSC 3.0 signal. Playing back PCAP files with DekTec equipment makes it possible to accurately replicate real-life transmission in a test setup.

In the first half of 2022, DekTec will release several exciting new products, as shown in the table below.

Below you will find a preview of the DTU-331, DTA-2116 and DTA-2127. The DTA 2110 will be covered in our next newsletter.

With the upcoming release of the DTU-331 SDR receiver for USB 3, you can now analyze ATSC 3.0 and other digital TV signals, from your laptop. It is perfect in the field for recordings and RF measurements, but it also works well in the lab. SDR technology enables advanced RF measurements such as constellation diagram and impulse response (for measuring echo's in the signal).

The DTU-331 is the portable variant of DekTec's SDR receiver for PCIe, the DTA-2131. The DTU-331 additionally supports satellite signals through a wider tuning range (VHF, UHF and L band) and a second high-bandwidth tuner.

The table below compares the features of the DTU-331 and the DTA-2131.

The DTU-331 will be able to receive the same digital TV signals as the DTA 2131, including terrestrial standards ATSC 1.0/3.0, DVB-T/T2, DAB(+), ISDB-T and cable standards QAM A, B and C. Additionally, with its 60-MHz tuner, the DTU-331 supports satellite standards DVB-S and DVB-S2.

The DTU-331 can also receive raw demodulated I/Q samples, e.g. for recording I/Q samples to a file and later playback for testing receivers with simulated reception conditions from the field.

DekTec's latest modulator card is compact (low profile PCIe), fully digital and has ultra-low phase-noise. The DTA-2116 supports all common digital TV and radio standards in the VHF, UHF and L band.

The table below compares the DTA-2116 to its predecessor, the DTA-2115B.

A powerful new feature is highly accurate synchronization of multiple DTA-2116s to a 10MHz/1pps source. If both cards are about the same temperature, the typical synchronization accuracy is well below 1ns.

The DTA-2127 is a compact PCIe satellite receiver card specially designed for modern satellite gateways. It allows simultaneous reception of four DVB-S2(X) channels with A/V or data, which you can process in software and - for example - retransmit over IP.

An additional 3G-SDI/ASI port, configurable as input or output, is available to ingest local A/V signals (compressed or baseband), or to output A/V signals for monitoring or further processing.

The key attributes of the DTA-2127 are shown in the table below:

For monitoring purposes, the DTA-2127 includes measurements for each received channel including lock status, RF level, demodulation status, modulation type, code rate, SNR, MER and BER.
